Data centers are crucial in the digital era, but their rising energy use, especially for cooling, could reach 6% of global consumption by 2030. To tackle this, deep-tech startup Apheros secured USD 1.85 million in pre-seed funding, led by Founderful, to develop its innovative metal foam technology, which significantly improves cooling efficiency.

Apheros targets the fast-growing liquid cooling segment, driven by the increasing demands of AI and data centers. Their metal foams offer superior heat exchange and fluid transport properties, essential for overcoming current energy challenges and achieving climate goals.

Founded in August 2023 as an ETH Zurich spin-off, Apheros aims to cut energy use and cooling costs for high-performance computing and mobile devices. Their patented foam structure, with unmatched porosity and surface area, integrates into existing cooling systems, addressing the rising demand in AI and data centers.

Led by co-founders Julia Carpenter and Gaëlle Andreatta, Apheros is poised to set new industry standards. Recent funding will help scale production, boost R&D, and expand their market reach.

The startup won the final stage of Venture Kick in 2023.
