The electronics startup CycloWatt has obtained CHF 150,000 from Venture Kick to develop a low-cost power meter that makes precise performance tracking accessible to a broader range of cyclists. The solution aims to extend data-driven training beyond professional cycling, enabling more riders to train with the same level of accuracy and insight.

Power measurement is the gold standard for cycling performance, enabling precise training and pacing strategies. However, existing power meters are expensive and often limited to a single bike, making them inaccessible and impractical for many amateur cyclists. As a result, most riders lack reliable data to guide their training and improve performance.

CycloWatt, emerging from the ETH Zurich ecosystem, introduces an affordable and user-friendly power meter that delivers accurate performance data. The device combines force measurements with motion data and applies embedded machine learning to provide real-time insights. Designed to be flexible and easy to use, the solution allows cyclists to access advanced training metrics without the cost and complexity of traditional systems.

The global cycling power meter market is growing rapidly and is projected to reach around USD 500 million by 2026, as the technology shifts from an elite-only tool to a “gold standard” for recreational training. CycloWatt targets the expanding segment of hobbyist and amateur cyclists, who are often deterred by the high cost of premium systems. The company plans to enter the market through collaborations with retailers and bike brands.

The CHF 150,000 from Venture Kick will be used to finalize product development and bridge the gap to full-scale commercialization. Key focus areas include expanding the team, setting up manufacturing, and preparing for market entry.

CycloWatt was founded by Levi Luder and Victor Luder, two cycling enthusiasts with backgrounds in economics and engineering. Combining technical expertise with entrepreneurial experience, the team is developing practical tools to make performance analytics more accessible to everyday athletes.

"The Venture Kick journey has been instrumental in helping us build a business around our technology," stated co-founder Levi Luder. "Its financial support arrived at a critical stage, as we transitioned from research to a market-ready product. Connecting with other founders and receiving Venture Kick's validation has been motivating, and we aim to leverage this recognition as we grow."
