Traditional chemical production is costly in energy, reagents, and environmental impact. This has led Europe to offshore much of its chemical manufacturing, now subject to geopolitical uncertainty. Nature evolved an elegant solution for its own chemistry: enzymes. These biocatalysts are powerful and sustainable, but don't exist for many industrial reactions. Using advanced algorithms, we design custom enzymes that efficiently produce small-molecule pharmaceuticals, cutting costs, supply dependencies, and environmental burden. Our ETHZ founding team – Lucas, Jannik, Moritz, Lukas, and Ilya – combines machine learning, structural biology, and chemistry with a strong Basel pharma network. We target biocatalysis for pharmaceutical APIs, a market growing from $2.7B to $11.4B by 2032.
