Grenat is an optical sorter helping small-scale farmers reclaim traditional crops, vital for climate change adaptation due to their water stress resistance and nutritional value. In 2022, global lentil production reached 66 million tonnes, doubling in 14 years. Meanwhile, the FAO declared 2023 the International Year of Millet. However, crop processing remains laborious for small farms, which make up 86% of global farms, as productivity is hampered by manual grain sorting.

Co-founded by Josué Scheidegger and Luisa Magalhaes Collomb, the start-up is developing innovative AI technology to sort grains as small as 1mm in diameter. Designed for small-scale farmers, it addresses the needs of millions of producers in Europe and emerging economies, especially in India and Africa.
