XRnanotech wins CHF 150,000 for making the nano-world visible
10.12.2020
XRnanotech provides unique optics-solutions that address the worldwide need for advanced X-ray optics in microscopy. Its proprietary technology was used to establish the world record in X-ray focusing and opens new horizons for researchers to provide novel insights into viruses, proteins, or nanostructured transistors. With the CHF 150,000, the startup will advance its market entry and expand to the global market.

The heart of every microscope is its optics. However, X-ray microscopes do not function with conventional glass lenses but require special nanostructured optics. Here, the lack of X-ray optics with high resolution prevents scientists from properly looking at the smallest structures, the nano-world. XRnanotech provides a new perspective and allows researchers to peek deeper into matter and materials than ever before.
XRnanotech’s world-record resolution (at 7 nm, using soft X-ray scanning microscopy) enables researchers to use X-ray technologies to obtain sharp images from the smallest-ever structures, such as transistors in microchips or advanced magnetic materials. XRnanotech’s patented technologies are uniquely positioned to advance cutting-edge scientific experiments, materials testing, and medical imaging: The solutions provide twice the photon efficiency compared to state-of-the-art products and allow applications at high-intensity X-ray lasers without degradation of the optics.
Dr. Florian Döring founded XRnanotech in 2020 with the goal of bringing the newest groundbreaking innovations in X-ray optics to market. XRnanotech will enter the growing market of diffractive X-ray optics, which is dominated by large-scale research facilities and academic institutes, a global market estimated at around CHF 1.6 billion.
With the support of Venture Kick, XRnanotech will boost its market entry and expand from the European to the global market. This will require scale-up of the production and continuous product development. “Venture Kick is a true asset for young startups, like XRnanotech. It helped us to drive our business development, enabled contacts to our first investors, and allowed us to sell our first products right after the foundation of our company,” said Dr. Florian Döring, CEO and founder of XRnanotech.
