SELPH : Medtech / A self-test device for Sexually Transmitted Diseases
A million STDs are acquired every day worldwide, and half of them remain undiagnosed. To help solve this problem, EPFL masters students Marius Jatautas and Niyazi Ulas Dirc founded SELPH, which aim is to create a convenient and accurate self-test hardware device for STDs with an additional 24/7 consultation service. Users will be able to order the test device and screen themselves in 15 minutes anonymously without going to a doctor's office and avoiding all the unnecessary barriers. In addition to this, people using the SELPH phone app will be able to get a 24/7 worldwide access to consultations with a professional medical doctor, to discuss any concerns related to STDs. If the test results are positive, users will receive several options where to seek further help in their location. They are currently improving the development of a prototype of a SELPH reader are starting to work on the prototype of the test strip.
Ceidos: Cell Expansion Monitoring Device
Sébastien Walpen and Leonard Barras from the University of Bern developed a "Cell Expansion Monitoring Device" that uses patients' own cells, modified to target the disease, to fight the cancer once reinjected back into the body. This device will be sold to the pharmaceutical industries and will allow them to simplify the production method of these therapies. This will reduce costs and make these revolutionary therapies accessible to as many patients as possible, knowing that currently a therapy costs about 450,000.- for one patient. The team will use Venutre Kick’s support to cover early expenses related to market validation, and refine the product’s technical specifications.

Nexus Venture: matching candidates and corporate culture over a meal
Traditional recruitment doesn't make it easy to assess a candidate's cultural fit or give prospective hires much insight into their possible future work and colleagues. Simon Hofer, Konstantin Nesterov and James Margrove -- graduates of ETH Zurich and St. Gallen -- are building career-lunch.com to pair potential hires and innovative employers for informal exchanges over lunch. Their service, which launched this month with a dozen employers at three of Switzerland's biggest universities, aims to give both sides more authentic opportunities to get to know each other.
