ribolifeDx: Rapid Self-Test for Sexually-Transmitted Infections
The WHO estimates that nearly one million people become infected every day with any of four curable sexually transmitted infections (STIs): chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, and trichomoniasis. Dr. Siew-Veena Sahi, from the University of Geneva, Dr. Gianpaolo Rando, Brij Sahi and Didier Cowling co-founded ribolifeDx to provides a rapid, self-administered test for sexually-transmitted infections. This replaces an existing, expensive DNA test that can only be performed by technicians in the laboratory, and takes up to 7 days to deliver results. From a user perspective, ribolifeDx's solution is equivalent to a pregnancy test - a reliable disposable self-test, providing a rapid result that can be easily interpreted by anyone, anytime. Their patented DNA isothermal technology is already used commercially in the food industry by SwissDeCode. Their digital, connected test captures the result, time & date stamp, geolocation data - and uploads this to a paired app for fast, actionable results by remote healthcare professionals. The Venture Kick funds will go towards completing their proof-of-concept & creating the minimum viable product.
