The Swiss ETH spin-off company Scrona released a campaign on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. The company is raising funds for µPeek, an elegant gadget that turns almost any smartphone into a professional microscope. Best known for their next-gen nanoprinting technology, Scrona initially developed µPeek to solve some of their own internal problems. But as the tool created widespread fascination with users of the early prototype, they turned it into a stand-alone product.
Released on Kickstarter on 10 December 2015, the project has already covered 15% of its funding goal of CHF 125'000, within the first 24 hours.
The project causes serious waves with its vision of transforming microscopy from a purely scientific discipline into an everyday experience for everyone. Within the size of a credit-card µPeek features high-quality optics, motorized focus and a patent-pending illumination system. The latter is controlled by a separate Android/iOS App via Bluetooth and allows taking microscopic pictures that resemble each user's individual preference.

With its professional configuration µPeek is expected to make its move towards educational and even expert applications. This includes its possible use for quality control in industry or for medical diagnostics in remote third world locations.
The campaign is running until January 2016. If you want to help Scrona reach their goal, spread the news and share with your network.
