The TOP 100 and Venture Kick startup Sallea has raised USD 2.6 million in a pre-seed funding round to advance the production of high-quality cultivated meats. The company’s innovative 3D scaffolds aim to enable food manufacturers to produce whole cuts, such as steaks and fillets, without the need for animal farming.

Sallea’s technology arrives as the cellular agriculture industry moves towards specialized components, such as cell media and scaffolds, sourced externally. Scaffolds are becoming essential yet complex elements in this evolving ecosystem.
With USD 2.6 million in pre-seed funding, led by Founderful and Kost Capital, Sallea plans to step up product development and launch pilot projects with cultivators globally. This is the company's first equity investment, adding to USD 1.8 million in non-dilutive grants. Sallea aims to be the leading scaffold provider, driving sustainable animal protein production.
Founded in November 2023, Sallea's all-female team developed edible 3D scaffolds that enable the cultivation of textured meat and fish cuts. Built on ETH Zurich research by CTO Nicole Kleger, CEO Simona Fehlmann, and CCO Anna Bünter, these scaffolds enhance cultivated foods' nutritional profile and texture.
This year, Sallea was ranked among the TOP 100 Swiss Startups and won the final stage of Venture Kick in 2023.
"I am very thankful to Venture Kick as it allowed us to push on all topics outside of technical development, which is essential to growing an idea out of university to become a product and a company," highlighted Simona Fehlmann, CEO of Sallea. "With this round, we plan to accelerate product development and initiate pilot projects with cultivating companies around the globe."
