The Renens-based aerospace company SWISSto12 received EUR 73 million from European Space Agency (ESA) member states through the ARTES HummingSat Partnership Project. Additional funding raised from European private investors in the second half of 2025 brings total funding to over EUR 100 million.

The investment will accelerate the development and industrialization of HummingSat, expand manufacturing capacity and support further product development. It also enables continued work on phased-array antenna technologies for LEO, MEO and GEO satellite payloads, as well as ground-based user terminals.

Backed at the 2025 ESA ministerial conference by Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Sweden, Norway and associate member Canada, the HummingSat platform is being developed in partnership with ESA and is scheduled for first launch in 2027. Smaller and more cost-efficient than traditional geostationary satellites, it offers operators a flexible platform with software-defined, reconfigurable payloads and faster deployment timelines.

SWISSto12 has been ranked among the Top100 Swiss Startups, won Venture Kick, and participated in the Venture Leaders program.
