ReflectUS, (ETHZ) – MedTech: Next generation breast cancer diagnosis
One in eight women will develop BC during their lifetime, with 5’600 new cases per year in Switzerland and 1.5 million cases world-wide. ReflectUS’ radiation-free, painless, portable and low-cost technology allows the differentiation of malign and benign solid masses based on conventional ultrasound, which is routinely used for diagnostic breast examination.

The technology enabled the quantitative diagnostic assessment of breast tissue using a common ultrasound device by simply determining the speed of sound. Speed of sound increases in glandular tissue and in higher magnitude in cancerous tissues. This allows the differentiation of malign and benign solid masses in ultrasound images with an accuracy of over 95%, and the classification of dense and non-dense breasts.

ReflectUS enables women of all ages to receive safe and reliable breast cancer diagnosis without radiation and discomfort.

Nextep (HEIG-VD) – MedTech: New integrated hardware and software for the production of prosthetic limb components
Nextep is working to provide the ortho-prosthetic world with new integrated hardware and software for the production of prosthetic limb liners. The startup goal is to revolutionize prosthetic liner manufacturing by bringing digitalization and 3D printing technologies to the prosthetics industry. The startup devised a streamlined process to produce personalized liners for a fraction of the price as they’re currently sold on the market. This process is based on three modules: a proprietary solution for 3D scanning leg stumps; a proprietary design software that allows for scan visualization, liner edition and design; and a modified commercial 3D printer to print customized liners.

This solution also has the advantage of increasing productivity and of empowering over-stretched technicians with the ability to design bespoke prosthetic parts, through enhanced capabilities. This package will allow Nextep to produce and deliver tailor made liners to prosthetic technicians for each of their patients, thereby providing increased comfort for amputees, increased profits (150%) for prosthetists, and reduced costs for insurances.
