Quantum Microscope-Maker Qnami Raises CHF 2.6m to Enter Magnetic Imaging Market
12.11.2019
Qnami closed a 2.6-million-franc seed round led by Quantonation, and joined by investiere, ZKB Start-up Finance and High-Tech Gründerfonds. The investment will help launch the Swiss startup’s first product, a quantum microscope to inspect magnetic materials at the nanoscale, and fund further development of its quantum sensing applications.

Qnami has developed an innovative platform for the analysis of magnetic materials at the nanoscale, based on a proprietary quantum technology. Mathieu Munsch, co-founder and CEO of Qnami says “in modern electronics, the magnetic properties of materials play a crucial role. Yet, they are not always well understood and even less well-controlled, in particular at sub-micron scale. Our technology allows scientists and engineers to explore new ideas, to directly visualize the effect of any small change in their design or fabrication process. Our first product will help them finely focus their efforts, so that they can create, design and deliver the electronics of the future”.

Basel-based Qnami won 130,000 francs, support and entrepreneurial training from Venture Kick in 2018. “Venture Kick proved to be a very helpful program to stimulate us and help us assess our progress during the initial phase of development. Having no prior experience of building a company, and being open to external input and critique, we greatly benefited from the input of the jury. It now already feels a long time ago already, but the support we got was decisive in our early days.” says Matthieu Munsch.
The two-year old startup also ranked at the TOP 100 Swiss Startup Award this year. “Our entry in the TOP 100 is very recent, and it's probably too early to measure its effect. Yet it is a great reward for the team. We're both pleased that there is already room for quantum tech in such a ranking and impressed by the variety of high impact start-ups,” he said.
