Qendra obtains CHF 150,000 from Venture Kick to enable scalable control systems for quantum computing

The ETH spin-off Qendra has obtained CHF 150,000 from Venture Kick to improve how advanced quantum computing experiments are coordinated and operated. The solution aims to make these systems more reliable and easier to scale, supporting the next generation of this emerging technology.

Quantum computers are expected to transform fields such as drug discovery, logistics, and climate modelling. However, leading approaches such as trapped-ion and neutral-atom systems rely on complex experimental setups that are difficult to control. Coordinating lasers, cameras, and other devices requires highly specialized systems, which currently lack scalability and reliability, limiting progress in both research and commercialization.
Qendra addresses this challenge by providing a dedicated control system that bridges the gap between classical hardware and quantum operations. Its technology synchronizes and manages the many components required for quantum experiments, from signal generation to system orchestration. Designed for fast setup and high precision, the platform enables more efficient experiments and supports the scaling of quantum computing systems.
The consensus on the technology most likely to power the first practically useful quantum computers has recently shifted from superconducting qubits to neutral atoms and trapped ions. This shift is driving strong growth in the control system market for these platforms, which is expected to expand from CHF 50 million in 2025 to CHF 1 billion by 2035. Qendra has already secured early revenue for 2026 through collaborations with startups and research groups and plans to significantly scale the number of control system deployments in 2027.
The CHF 150,000 from Venture Kick will enable Qendra to execute the IP strategy, ensuring long-term freedom to operate, and to advance its expansion plans for 2027 by converting key customers.
The electronic startup was founded by CEO Dr. Martin Stadler, COO Dr. Ferdinand Felder, and deputy CTO Chidzahi Mabritto, building on technology developed at ETH Zurich in the Trapped Ion Quantum Information group. The team combines expertise in quantum physics, engineering, and system design to bring advanced control solutions to quantum computing labs.
“Venture Kick has been phenomenal at accelerating our development from an academic research project to a startup with a clear goal, business model, go-to-market plan, and roadmap to achieve not only technological but also commercial success. It really kicked us out of our comfort zone,” highlighted co-founder Martin Stadler.
