Power-wheelchair pioneer Scewo raises CHF 8.5 million to advance growth and expansion

The ETH spin-off closed a CHF 8.5 million Series A financing round. This capital will be used to accelerate their growth and international expansion. Scewo was a Venture Kick winner in 2017 and one of the TOP 100 Swiss Startups in 2019 and 2021.

Scewo, which recently won the Swiss Medtech Award 2021, successfully raised CHF 8.5 million with Verve Ventures, Wingman Ventures, Zürcher Kantonalbank, medtech entrepreneur Willi Miesch, Boundary Holding, and additional investors. With this capital, the startup intends to accelerate company growth as well as international expansion.
The stair-climbing power wheelchair Scewo BRO, which has won several notable design awards, is already attracting a lot of attention in the streets of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The CE-certified vehicle is produced in Switzerland, where Scewo has expanded its production capacity to several hundred units per year. Already today, the power wheelchair can be officially financed through insurances in Switzerland and Germany.
“The interest from customers is huge! We are now evaluating strategically located and qualified distribution partners to offer local test drives and a good service,” said co-founder and CEO Bernhard Winter.
“The founders of Scewo have brought a technologically sophisticated product to market in just three years, demonstrating their outstanding talent,” added Romeo Bütler of Verve Ventures.
Scewo was a Venture Kick winner in 2017 and one of the TOP 100 Swiss Startups in 2019 and 2021.
