PeelPack receives CHF 150,000 from Venture Kick to turn waste into packaging

The foodtech startup PeelPack has obtained CHF 150,000 from Venture Kick to create biodegradable and compostable packaging made from upcycled potato peels. By offering an alternative to conventional plastic and paper punnets, the startup aims to reduce the environmental footprint of fresh produce distribution and waste management.

Fresh fruit and vegetables are still widely packaged in petroleum-based plastics or non-recyclable paper, contributing to high levels of waste and emissions. While demand for sustainable options is rising, many existing “green” materials fall short in durability or compostability, making them unsuitable for everyday distribution needs. Producers and retailers therefore lack a viable alternative that meets both environmental expectations and practical performance requirements.

This is where PeelPack comes in, developing biodegradable and compostable punnets made from biopolymers derived from upcycled potato peel waste. The material combines the strength and stability of plastic with full compostability, delivering a practical alternative without sacrificing performance. By turning agricultural byproducts into durable packaging, the foodtech startup helps reduce the environmental footprint of fresh produce packaging across the supply chain.

PeelPack targets a global fresh produce packaging market worth around USD 6 billion, currently reshaped by regulatory pressure and shifting retailer expectations. Within months, the startup has secured more than 20 pilot projects across Switzerland, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, and France, working closely with growers, packers, and retailers. This early traction has sparked interest from industrial partners assessing extrusion and thermoforming, with further applications in development.

The CHF 150,000 from Venture Kick will support the transition from pilot projects to industrial-scale production, including the manufacturing of initial volumes, onboarding additional production partners, and validating further processing technologies.

CEO Slava Drigloff and CTO Massimo Bagnani lead PeelPack, combining expertise in food technology, materials science, and sustainable packaging to bring the solution to market.

“Partnering with Venture Kick has been a real advantage for us,” said CEO Slava Drigloff. “Its community doesn’t just fund, it challenges and supports founders building at speed. Joining Venture Kick opens doors and connects us with people committed to helping us succeed.”
