Our newest Kickers ride the wind and (radio) waves
25.09.2018
Cleantech, Medtech, Biotech and IT startups swayed the Venture Kick jury in their favor, showing the tremendous potential of their ingenious technologies. Congratulations to Brainwhere, DIANA Dosimetry, MOMM Diagnostics and NIR Lab on passing Venture Kick stage 1 and securing CHF 10,000 each.

DIANA Dosimetry with Donatella Ungaro and Marina Giunta – Medtech
DIANA Dosimetry aims at developing new and advanced dosimeters for radio diagnostic treatments. The lack of precise measurements of the ionization dose delivered to patients' skin during interventional radiology can lead to serious consequences, like burns or erythema. The innovative dosimetry system proposed by DIANA is based on radiation hard technologies used in high-energy physics experiments, and can accurately measure radiation doses in real time.
Brainwhere with Michael Perlberger (HSR) – Cleantech
Brainwhere envisions to satisfy tomorrow’s energy needs by converting high altitude wind energy into electricity with its unique Airborne Wind Power solution AWT. AWT operates in a singular point in space. This allows the AWT to be configured as a system-of-systems to ladder up and operate at jet stream altitude. The AWT provides a solution for close to 1 billion people still living off grid and who currently satisfy their energy needs with fuel based generators. At the same time, Brainwhere's AWT geo-static platform could serve as a High-Altitude Pseudo Satellite (HAPS) enabling people to connect, to collaborate and to create economic value. This is how Brainwhere aims to build the bridge between energy and communication.
MOMM Diagnostics with Mathias Wipf – Biotech, Medtech
MOMM Diagnostics conceives a new generation of in-vitro diagnostic tests for early diagnosis of pre-eclampsia. Pre-eclampsia remains to this day one of the leading causes for maternal mortality. Early diagnosis is therefore vital to minimize complications and prepare adequately for birth. The startup has developed a solution using microscale solid-state sensors for electrical detection of biomarkers in blood, which would allow the detection of multiple biomarkers, using a single-use cartridge and a hand-held reader for diagnosis of the condition directly where the patients are being taken care of.
NIR Lab with Florentin Coppey (UNIL) – IT
NIR Lab has a comprehensive solution for police forces to identify illicit drugs with high accuracy. The startup aims at delivering a portable, fast and easy-to-use tool to screen samples for most common illicit substances, while providing an estimation on the purity of the tested drug. NIR Lab’s software uses advance chemometrics algorithms stored in a centralized server that receives and processes prediction requests. It delivers instant, non-destructive results in the field, allowing the police to move forward with their investigations.
