The medtech company Moonlight AI has secured USD 3.3 million in Seed financing to accelerate the development of its AI-powered diagnostic platform for blood and cancer-related diseases. The round brings together investors from Europe, Asia, and North Africa, alongside existing backers, and will primarily be used to expand the team and scale product development.
The company, a Venture Kick funding recipient, addresses a key constraint in precision oncology: reliance on Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), which is expensive and often slow. Instead, Moonlight AI applies computer vision models to routine blood and cytology smear images to identify genomic biomarkers and disease signatures directly from standard laboratory workflows.
“We are very thankful that Venture Kick believed in us and supported us very early on,” highlighted co-founder Christian Ruiz.
A central focus of the Seed round is the expansion of Moonlight AI’s proprietary dataset, which connects whole slide imaging of cytopathology samples with matched genomic data. This dataset is intended to strengthen model performance and support clinical validation.
With the new capital, Moonlight AI will advance applications in myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), non-small cell lung cancer, and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), while moving toward commercialization and regulatory approval. The financing also supports its transition into a Swiss Aktiengesellschaft, preparing the company for international scale-up.
