MeduSoil, Earth reinforcement So(i)lutions (EPFL) Construction technology, cleantech, materials/chemicals
Across the world, there is a need to build ever more complex structures on lower quality soils. Current soil stabilisation methods must be tailored to suit a given location and a specific engineering application. MeduSoil couples novel bio-chemical means with traditional engineering tools and processes for suggesting efficient earth reinforcement solutions. A bio-chemically active layer is integrated in traditional practices to ultimately increase soil’s resistance and rigidity and secure the integrity of structures against failures and environmental threats.

Hive Power (SUPSI) IT, blockchain, energy
The way we use energy is changing. More and more households and companies are no longer simple consumers from the energy grid, but instead have become “prosumers”, meaning that they produce their own energy (e.g. through solar panels) at times, while at peak times relying on the grid to cover their production capabilities. What Hive Power aim to do is to create a sharing platform on the blockchain, whereby energy sharing communities are created which all members may benefit from, both financially and technically.

Aspivix (Haute Ecole ARC) Medtech
Every year, 65 million obstetric and gynaecological treatments require access to the uterus. The standard use of Tenaculum forceps may be painful as well as traumatic and pose a risk of cross-contamination. Aspivix are developing a new generation of Tenaculum forceps which painlessly uses vacuum suction, reducing discomfort for the patient, eradicating the risk of bleeding and lesions and as a single use instrument avoids the risk of cross contamination.

SNAQ (ZHAW) Health
SNAQ provides automated food image analysis. Based on a simple scan with a smartphone the startup estimates the carbohydrate, calorie and protein content of a meal. As a first step, the team target medical device manufacturers of insulin pumps and glucose monitoring devices as well as companies active in the weight management and fitness domain to leverage their technology inside their products. This technology closes the loop for artificial pancreas systems and empowers large-scale research on the impact of food on a person’s health.
