Four innovative startup projects win CHF 10'000 on the first stage of Venture Kick
13.07.2017
Four startups won CHF 10’000 each on the first stage of Venture Kick: Feeltronix, Nanogence, SAMA Energy and LuckaBox. Feeltronix is the 500th project supported by Venture Kick since 2007. The four projects benefit from the annual global 3 million in cash support from the program as well as hands-on execution support at the kickers camps. They are now preparing for stage two, where they might win another CHF 20’000.

Feeltronix (EPFL), Venture Kick's 500th project – electronics, mechanics: How do you integrate electronics with complex, dynamic surfaces like the human body? The promise of wearables continues to grow, even though there are no accepted methods for merging electronics with the body. Feeltronix has developed a proprietary platform technology that stretches the mechanical limits of electronics and provides solutions for wearable and compliant systems. The technology is compatible with equipment used in the manufacture and assembly of electronic circuits, and enables unmatched mechanical elasticity and electronic performance in soft circuits.

Nanogence (EPFL) – Cleantech, material, chemicals: With global pressure for reducing carbon emission and with degrading/ever-changing raw material, cement & concrete manufacturer need disruptive tech changes to maintain high-quality durable materials with lower carbon emission. Nanogencehas developed patented products that can not only help to reduce the carbon emission by half but also increase strength by 20-30 % to that of normal concrete. Its eco-friendly approach based technology includes special nanoparticle additives with least carbon footprint for on demand acceleration or retardation of the concrete hardening (up to 60%) and also increase the lifetime of normal concrete (durability up to 30%).
SAMA Energy (UNIGE) – Cleantech, IT: With the increased proliferation of wind and solar generation assets, there is a growing challenge for these?assets’ owners in managing the risk of intermittent energy production that depends on uncertain weather conditions. In particular, the grid imbalance costs can wipe out a large portion of renewable energy sales revenues. The startup has developed a self-learning algorithm based on advanced stochastic optimal control theory that reduces imbalance costs for renewable asset owners by 30%.
LuckaBox (IMD) – logistics, business services, ICT: LuckaBox provides a customer-centric logistics platform for online retailers to offer their customers on-demand and last-mile deliveries that meets the demands of their busy lifestyle. The startup is an aggregation service platform of the fragmented local couriers that helps retailers in Switzerland and Europe provide their e-commerce customers with ninety-minute order deliveries. Retailers can also offer deliveries within a one-hour timeframe established by individual customers. These new delivery options are available through the LuckaBox web service API, which connects directly with individual courier companies.
