Five startup projects win the first stage of Venture Kick

Five startups instead of four won CHF 10’000 each at the first stage of Venture Kick: Kurt, KITRO, HAYA Therapeutics, vestr and FOLDAWAY. They benefit from the annual global 3 million in cash support from the program as well as hands-on execution support at the kickers camps. They are now preparing for stage two, where they might win another CHF 20’000.

Kurt (HSG) – Saas, sports and travel: Kurt is a mobile application to discover, book, and enjoy mountain cabins in the alps. For cabin managers, Kurt is a digital “reservation system” to automate their current time consuming pen & paper reservation approach. This system will also include deposit payments and automatic waitlists allowing the alpine cabin to reduce the financial impact of cancellations. Furthermore, the startup is providing cabin manager services such as connections to additional booking channels, dynamic pricing, and targeted marketing campaigns in order to increase the cabin occupancy rates.
KITRO (EHL) – food and beverage, High-Tech: KITRO is a fully automatic waste management solution for the food and beverage industry. KITRO provides customers with a hardware and a software that enables them to effortlessly reduce their food waste across the entire outlet. By providing customers with an overview of their food waste and suggestions on how to mitigate avoidable food waste restaurants are empowered to adapt more efficient work practices and decrease their food waste.
HAYA Therapeutics (UNIL) – bio-tech, bio-pharma: HAYA Therapeutics is dedicated to treating heart failure through the discovery and development of innovative first-in-class RNA-based therapeutics, with a specific focus on long noncoding RNAs. The startup aims to be the first company and world leader in translating long noncoding RNA discoveries into breakthrough bench-to-bedside tools to monitor and treat heart failure patients.
vestr (ETHZ) –Fintech: At vestr, one believe that every portfolio manager should be able to start his own fund with just one good investment idea. While a traditional fund requires CHF 100mn in assets and an elaborate legal setup, the vestr platform allows asset managers to set up their products virtually overnight and with very little seed money. Vestr streamlines and automates the AMC value chain that is presently manual and offers a shared services platform for asset managers and issuers. It is the first platform of its kind, taking care of trade executions, customized reportings and life cycle management of AMCs. Vestr makes ideas investable for everyone.
FOLDAWAY (EPFL) – IT, electronics, mechanics: FOLDAWAY, aims to develop ultra-portable and low cost origami haptic interfaces. FOLDAWAY interfaces allow the user to experience an advanced level of interaction with the virtual world that is based on the sense of touch. The current device has three degrees of freedom and can interact with human fingers by tracking their motion and providing force, stiffness and texture perception. One of the enabling technologies behind this innovative interface is a layer by layer origami manufacturing technique to produce high precision, low cost, complex 3D mechanisms.
