Electronics and communication devices must be evaluated for their radio frequency emissions. Current test solutions require large, costly anechoic chambers and lengthy point-to-point scanning. The advent of 5G and Beamforming technologies, which enhance signal-to-noise ratios, further complicates testing due to the variety of operational modes.
The HEIG-VD spin-off EMPath develops hardware and software for 3D radiation pattern retrieval, offering a disruptive solution for devices such as phones, automated cars, radars, satellite communication, and IoT devices. Its patented solution can perform the tests in a single shot, eliminating the need for point-to-point scanning. It is at least 4 times more compact, 50 times faster, and will enable production line testing.
The overall test chamber market, valued at approximately USD 1.4 billion, is growing significantly due to advancements in the 5G and IoT industries. EMPath aims to capture 6% of this market, focusing initially on beamforming-based applications, and plans to expand into IoT and consumer electronics. The Vaud-based startup’s first pilot project targets the satellite and aerospace sectors.
EMPath will invest the CHF 150,000 from Venture Kick to accelerate its business development by implementing several pilots with customers.
The team comprises Founder Dr. Mohammad Azadifar, a senior engineer of HEIG-VD, and technical leader Elias Le Boudec.
“Venture Kick has transformed our trajectory. The program not only refined our strategy for achieving product-market fit but also motivated us to set and chase ambitious objectives. Venture Kick has indeed propelled us forward, inspiring us to think on a grand scale and take courageous actions,” stated Mohammad Azadifar.
