Modern agriculture contributes 23% to global greenhouse gas emissions and faces rapid soil degradation. Cotierra's biochar solution, made from coffee tree residues, restores soil health and boosts farm productivity. Its decentralized approach reduces logistics, benefiting smallholder farms, and meets the demand for carbon removal credits.
The round saw significant interest from a consortium of environmental and climate-focused investors, including Carbon Removal Partners, Climate Founders, Partners in Clime, Carbon Drawdown Initiative, S2S Ventures, and ClimateTech business angels.
This capital injection enables Cotierra to fast-track the development and prove the operational feasibility of its innovative and cost-effective biochar reactor technology and robust Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) system in Colombia. The funds will also support agronomy studies to validate further emission reduction benefits and farmers' margins increase, to help clients accelerate the regenerative agriculture transformation and to generate reliable data for their sustainability claims.
Cotierra won the first and second stages of Venture Kick in 2023.
