CHF 40,000 to Reward Long-lasting Flavors and Safer Radiology

24.01.2019

Foodtech and medtech projects impressed the Venture Kick jury with their innovative technologies. Congratulations to microPow's additive-free, micro-structured delivery system for food and DIANA Dosimetry's advanced dosimeters for radio diagnostic treatments on passing stage 2 of Venture Kick.

microPow: enhancing natural aromas & flavors

Consumers today demand food that is natural, additive-free and convenient. That’s often a contradiction, as the aromas and flavors used in convenience products are especially sensitive and volatile, which means chemicals are added to preserve their quality during food processing, storage and distribution. MicroPow is developing micro-structured powders that enhance the perception and stability of food’s natural aromas and flavors. The technology, developed by ETH Zurich researchers Pascal Guillet and Lea Pokorny, may allow the cosmetics industry too reduce additives too.

DIANA Dosimetry: safer radiology doses

Physicists Donatella Ungaro and Marina Giunta are developing better dosimeters for radio diagnostic treatments. Current technology is imprecise, which means the ionization dose delivered to patients' skin during interventional radiology can lead to serious burns and inflammation. DIANA’s dosimetry system is based on radiation technologies used in high-energy physics experiments (both entrepreneurs previously worked at CERN) and can accurately measure radiation doses in real time.
