Impact Build: Decarbonizing Construction with Robotic Manufacturing
The construction sector is facing a labor shortage and is responsible for 37% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. While some ecological methods exist, they tend to be labor-intensive, costly, and difficult to scale.
ETH spin-off Impact.build has introduced an innovative robotic 3D printing method aimed at industrialized, circular construction. This patented technology enables the deposition of dense materials at high velocity, compacting them without the need for formwork or additives. The printed structures are created using common excavated materials, which can also be recycled. The founding team includes CEO Lauren Vasey, COO Kunaljit Chadha, and advisors Prof. Fabio Gramazio and Prof. Matthias Kohler, all of whom bring decades of experience in robotics within the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) sector. Initially, the startup will target the USD 180 billion prefabrication market by offering mass-customizable, low-carbon, fire-resistant, and acoustically insulated wall systems. The process is adaptable to multiple robotic systems, ensuring scalability and versatility for various construction applications.
Funding from Venture Kick will support stakeholder workshops focused on refining the initial products and conducting market research to identify potential customers.
Xelidoni: AI-Powered Rental Property Inspection
Every year, billions are lost due to inefficient property management. Currently, 70% of property managers spend over 20 hours per week on manual tasks, and only 30% of companies utilize predictive technologies. This lack of foresight leads to reactive maintenance costs that are 2 to 4 times higher than preventive solutions.
Xelidoni addresses this inefficiency with an artificial intelligence platform that automates real-time damage detection and anticipates maintenance needs, ultimately reducing costs and improving the longevity of rental properties. With a unique approach that combines precision, automation, and seamless integration, Xelidoni aims to transform rental property inspection into a predictive, proactive, and AI-optimized process. Founded by a team of experts in computer vision and machine learning, Xelidoni integrates seamlessly with major Property Management Systems (PMS) on the market. Its technology analyzes building conditions and detects anomalies as they arise, preventing costly repairs and unnecessary downtime.
Xelidoni plans to use the Venture Kick funds to optimize its AI algorithm, test its Minimum Viable Product (MVP) in real-world conditions with strategic partners, and develop a go-to-market strategy to capture a significant share of this growing market.
