Dr Irio Calasso has been recently leading a small size company (Xellex AG) that develops and sells generic drugs for oncology for hospital use. He was responsible for the development of the drug formulation till the achievement of marketing authorizations within EU and CH and for the sale and licensing of the products. With his previous employments, he acquired major expertise in research and development in MedTech and in particular in diabetes care; in a large size company (Roche) as well as in a start-up company. His main duty was the development of sophisticated medical instruments for diabetes care, beginning from technology scouting up to final products ready for mass manufacturing. During these positions he has also been involved in business development projects having contacts with patients and doctors to investigate market expectations as well as in analysing and assessing competitor’s activities.
Dr Calasso has a solid expertise in managing projects, leading teams in local and international environment and in matrix organizations. His background is in Physics with a PhD from the ETHZ and postdoc experience in US at Brown University in Providence (RI).
