A New Bus Signalling Technology.

Kandou Bus SA is a startup located at the Innovation Square of EPFL. The company was founded in January 2011. Kandou designs high speed, energy and pin efficient serial links connecting Integrated Circuit components such as processor and memory, or processor and processor. Serial links account for a major part of the energy consumption of electronic devices, and consumption of electronic devices, and represent an energy and speed bottleneck. Any improvement in their design directly leads to faster and more energy efficient electronic devices such as cell phones, laptops, desktops, servers, graphics cards, game consoles, LCD displays, routers, digital cameras, to name a few.

Kandou's technology is based on a patent pending new breed of chip interconnect technologies leading to 2-4x speed improvement at ½ to 1/5th of the power consumption. It is ideal for reducing power and increasing speed of any chip-to-chip connection, including high speed processor-memory connections in mobile and computing devices, ultra high-speed chip-to-chip connections over long trace lengths, and as a very low-power replacement for LVDS communication to displays.

Kandou's technology uses a new mode of transmission on serial links to transmit more bits on existing connections, using less energy. The technology is based on a number of patents which represent several man-years of research in discrete mathematics, circuit design, and high speed algorithm design. As of May 2013, Kandou Bus has more than 30 pending patent applications.

In 2012 Kandou finished an A-round of USD 10 million, giving it the right edge for the expansion it needs to capture different markets. Kandou has its Headquarters in Lausanne, a design office in Northampton, UK, sales/bizdev personnel in the US, and in Japan.
